Patterned Heritages

The CSUSM University Library and the Context Library Series welcomes Patterned Heritages by artist and CSUSM faculty member, Doris Bittar. Patterned Heritages is an interactive installation that offers participants an opportunity to share and uncover layers of identity, history, politics, and community. Doris Bittar, a multidisciplinary artist and art teacher, was born in Baghdad, Iraq, of Lebanese parents. Her work is influenced by multicultural heritage and Arabic art, using a variety of textures, structures, and patterns to invoke individual and ancestral memories. The exhibit will feature “Tec Sayings” – a multilingual platform for participants to weave their own stories of family, friends, and identity – and mixed media paintings such as “Folding Linens Araby” and “Baghdadi Bride.”
