Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Student Achievement in Special Education

This case study examines the impact of a social-emotional learning program embedded in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), within a juvenile court high school special education program. The analytical approach encompasses a quasi-experimental study using quantitative data methods, from the lens of cognitive theory. The review of the general body of research along with the case study, attempt to answer the question: How would a comprehensive approach to DBT in the special education program, using daily reinforcement lessons (mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation) impact positive behavior outcomes?"
