Comparision Of Dwell Time and Risk for Phlebitis In Peripherally Intravenous Catheters Ultrasound-Guided Peripheral Intravenous Catheter

Adult cancer patients experience numerous of venipuncture peripheral intravenous catheters due to difficult intravenous access (DIVA) and having to follow CDC recommendations of replacing PIVC catheters within 96 hours. With the exception of children PIVC replacements in seven days or when clinically indicated to prevent the risk of trauma or unnecessary intravenous restarts, adult cancer patients may benefit from following the same guidelines as children. With a pilot study on comparing the dwell time and risk for phlebitis on peripherally intravenous catheter (PIVC) and ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous catheters (USGPIVC), understanding the effects of PIVC and USGPIVC dwell time and risk for phlebitis may help provide future larger studies to adjust guidelines for adult cancer patients with special considerations.
