La variación lingüística de los estudiantes de herencia en California State University San Marcos

English version: The following study is a description of the distinctive features of the linguistic variation of heritage students of Spanish at California State University San Marcos. The study consists of a survey of students enrolled in Spanish for Heritage Speakers (Spanish 250) and Advanced Spanish for Heritage Speakers (Spanish 301B), during the Fall 2016 semester. The objective of this study is to characterize the linguistic variations of Spanish language heritage learners. With the data collected we can help develop curriculum to meet the needs of heritage speakers of Spanish. The survey was divided into two sections, one that focused on sociolinguistic aspects (i.e., how students express themselves, how they use the language, and the impact of English to their heritage language) and the second one that concentrated on the grammatical and orthographic aspects of the Spanish language (i.e., verbal moods and tenses, accent marks, spelling). The data collected in this survey was analyzed and diverse areas were correlated to establish if there was a relationship between linguistic and extra linguistic factors that explain what our heritage students of Spanish have developed in their home environment, as well as to establish which linguistic areas need development and how these can be developed based on their sociolinguistic information collected. Versión en español: La siguiente investigación es una descripción de los rasgos distintivos de la variación lingüística de los estudiantes de herencia de español en California State University San Marcos y consiste de una encuesta de los estudiantes que están inscritos en las clases de herencia, Español para hablantes de herencia (Español 250) y Español avanzado para hablantes de herencia (Español 301B), durante el semestre de otoño 2016. El objetivo de este estudio es caracterizar la variación lingüística de los estudiantes de herencia de español. Con los datos recolectados, podemos ayudar a desarrollar un currículo que sea adecuado para las necesidades de los hablantes de herencia del español. La encuesta fue dividida en dos secciones que se enfocan en (1) el perfil sociolingüístico (i.e., cómo se expresan los estudiantes, cómo usan la lengua y el impacto que tiene el inglés en su lengua de herencia) y (2) en los aspectos gramaticales y ortográficos del español (i.e., tiempos y modos verbales, acentuación, deletreo de palabras). Los datos recolectados para esta investigación fueron evaluados y diversas áreas se correlacionaron para establecer si había una relación entre los factores lingüísticos con los extralingüísticos que expliquen qué han desarrollado nuestros estudiantes de herencia del español en su hogar, así como establecer qué áreas necesitan desarrollarse y cómo éstas se pueden desarrollar basándose en la información sociolingüística recolectada.
