Using a Support Resource to Promote Success with Augmentative and Alternative Communication

This project was created to act as a guide for support team members of individuals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) with the intent of decreasing the chance of inappropriate abandonment of the system. The resource focused on encouraging AAC use in different contexts, clarifying roles of AAC team members, and facilitating open communication between AAC team members. The resource was distributed to speech-language pathologists (SLP) and other AAC team members in San Diego, CA. The feedback received from the recipients showed the resource was useful. However, the resource should be improved to incorporate a description of a greater variety of AAC team members as well as in-depth information for AAC users with earlier developmental levels.
