Developing a Proof of Concept Platform for a Patient Time Management Application

Currently, there is no centralized scheduling system that generates real time schedules for patients in the hospital setting. The Patient Time Management (PTM) Application was designed to fill a gap in the digital health market so patients could be cognizant of day to day activities and have a more structured hospital stay. The PTM is based on a SQL relational database, Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver, and QlikView interface. All three parts form a proof of concept platform that contains daily schedules of five patients, graphical charts of vital statistics, powerful searching capabilities, x ray images, username and password encryption, and the ability to export data as a file extension or through e-mail. The PTM application enhances the communication between patients and all caregivers. Healthcare staff members will have a more organized approach to patient care. Furthermore, friends and family will be well informed and accessible for consultations with health care providers. They will also know when their loved one has time for taking walks or having visitors. The application promises to enhance the quality of the patient’s hospital stay by providing comfort and support for patients and family members at what is often a difficult time for all. The PTM can be further developed to predict future health trends for individuals. Ideally, when a patient is admitted to a hospital, this application is downloaded onto their mobile device and all updates regarding their hospital profile are synchronized into one streamlined and uniform system. This app gives the patient access to their daily schedule and medical information. The Patient Time Management Application will help patients better understand their healthcare and allow for an improved hospital experience.
